Why get an XXX over an Alpine Type X?

The 12" XXX is often recommended as the sub to get. But why would anyone pick it over an 12" Alpine Type X?

Take a look at the graphs. Both subs are in ported boxes of 2 cu ft. The Alpine hits an amazing 20 Hz at -3dB! That's on par with HT sub setups. The XXX however hits a more modest 26 Hz at -3dB. Anything below -3dB results in the sub playing the signal at less than 1/2 power when compared to 0dB. Now, the XXX has an SPL advatange of around 2dB until 25Hz. At that point, the Type X outputs a higher SPL by a large amount. At 20 Hz the Type X has a 5-6 dB advantage in SPL over the XXX, a very large amount. Now, I must admit I have not heard either sub and am only going off of what people have told me and the numbers/graphs I see. People say both subs are excellent for SPL and SQ. Why then does it seem atleast to me that the XXX is so much more popular of the Type X when the Type X seems to be the better sub?

I would say that people have had different real world experience as to which woofer performs better. Also, the graphs do not tell accuracy and overall performance.

dont get pwn'd and just close this thread, you cant beat the xxx with anything, i dont care what you have.

Listen to the guys over on CAF, they are correct. Winisd is fine for designing an enclosure, but if you think you can extrapolate the performance of two woofers based on what winisd generates, you are mistaken. There is no consideration for power compression in winisd, so the graphs you have there are pretty useless once the subs start reaching decent amounts of excursion.

Even assuming those graphs will be indicative of real world performance (which they aren't).....who cares if the Type X has more output at 20hz and below? There are only a handful of musical genre's that even contain information down that low. Most music is going to be ~27hz and higher, where even you admit output on the XXX is higher.

But, beyond that......if you think looking at a few "theoretical" graphs is the best way to go about picking out a subwoofer, then you are going about it completely wrong to begin with.

yeah both manufactures recommend 30hz tunning for a ported box, for music that is ALL you will need i would say at 99% of the time, so what does it matter if the f3 is 0-29hz its bellow tunning ANYWAY. And i owned a xxx 12 , trust me its no joke.

W7 > XXX. Sorry but it's true

Stupid generalizer. I found the XXX to be better suited for my application. So is the XXX>W7? Who knows. Before you start a flame war on yourself, think before you make a statement.

funny bcuz my friend had the XXX15 and his other friend had the 13.5W7 and the XXX could be heard WAY further and OVER the W7.
