Why does everyone bash Sony headunits?

My brother had two sony h/u along with a buddy of his. All the same model the first one my brother had went out after just a few weeks of owning. Took it back and replaced it with same model. Lasted for about a year and the internal amplifier went out on it. The third didnt have any problems to my knowledge. I dont like sony for the luck my brother had with his. Not sure the model but they were in the price range of over $200 at CC when bought new.

I had a sony HU.. it was awesome. High quality sound (same one you have there, except older model), and nifty design. Friends LOVED seeing it flip down and then the flat screen. Didn't like the fact that you can't take the face plates off, but hey. O well! My problem occured when the strip that connects the faceplate to the stereo got pinched and then fried.

i dont like sony becasue they dont seem to last. my firend had an older sony xplod and teh faceplate broke off. then he got the newer version of it, and i jus thought it was ugly. but thas jus my 2 cents

Because, other than the Mobile_ES line (long time ago)... sony car audio sucks ***. Friend had a sony in 2003 (mp3 compatible CD-player), it's a piece of shit. Other than that, most other companies offer better in the price range now-a-days.

My preference for HU's go as follows:

Alpine

CLOSE CLOSE second Eclipse

Clarion

Panasonic

Pioneer

peace

entry level cd players sony isnt too good mid line and up they are ok, alot of people swear by alpine i had worse luck with them than anything. all i can say is you get what you pay for and anything can go bad.

a lot of sonys have a cheap plasticky feel. some are ok. i have a couple friends running sony w/o problems. i just wouldnt get one though, it's seriously the newb thing to do since all newbs think sony is the best electronics maker to ever have been established on this planet

I dont bash them, just in my experience many of them have had skipping problems

I bought a new sony CDX-F5700.... lets just say it lasted one week... then I had several problems with the head unit and I returned it. The sound quality isn't that great (toyota factory was better).

Problems:

1. played only half of an MP3 disk

2. regular cd skipped (brand new, no dirt)

3. I had a rear channel the 1st and 2nd day... nothing after that...

Next head unit is going to be a Clarion, I used to have a DXZ725, and loved it.

My roommate has a newer Sony Xplod in his Escort...I'm not that impressed with it. The rest of his system is stock, however - so not the best comparison.

Used to run MOBILE ES HUs exclusively. No more as they are no more. The ES line is still available in Japan to my knowledge, but they get all the good stuff.

Love the looks and functionality of Alpine yet I hate the 1-bit DAC.

My friend has a Sony HU and it was a flip out like that one, the CD got stuck in it and one day the motor for the screen to fold out broke and then about a week later the entire thing broke, it wouldnt turn on or anything. We checked all fo the wiring and everything and it was all fine. He had only had the HU for about 6 months too. I dont know why they have become so unreliable. Good luck with a good HU though!

By the way, does anyone here own a Sony CDX-M8800/M8805x or CDX-M9900/M9905x? If so, I'd be really curious to hear what you think.

I know this is old but I do. I have the cdxm9905x. Great unit. Nothing wrong with this sony HU so far. I even watch Dvd's now on the screen.

Im not even gonna read any of this thread... but to just let you know... my first deck... was a sony... and the screen just STOPED working... and then a week later ... same with my friends... (differnt models) and now all my friends have pioneer or alpine... and such... and never have that problem
