Why do some people love Alpine's new stuff so much

Is it IMPRINT or what? Is that all it's cracked up to be because some people seem to get a tune they like the first try, some people have to fumble around with microphones and re-do everything multiple times to make things better, and some never seem to get it completely right. Then I hear there is limits to your ability to further fine tune once everything is set and the wires are unhooked without erasing the baseline. Is IMPRINT really the be-all, end all of tuning and 50% of the people who try to work with it are just dumb?

To me buying anything under the 9887 in the new line is like going to buy a brand new car and being told the dealer took the stock rims and tires off and threw them in the trash, and if you want to drive the car away under it's own power you will need to pay 1500 bucks for the dealership's aftermarket wheel/tire package. Otherwise you'll be needing a flatbed.

that's retarded.... not everyone needs imprint, active etc. what is wrong with the lower end decks? Some people would rather only pay what they have to for the features they want. That is why most products offer multi tier pricing based upon product features (windows, decks, subs, xbox, playstation, computers, etc.) Your analogy is like saying if you don't spend $5000 on the newest alienware pc you are getting robbed lol... not everyone needs all of those features

OK. Well let's talk bluetooth. I have seen it offered built into other head units for 250-300 dollars.

Let's talk EQ/Time alignment. Ive seen other lines that offer it in a few different units that can be had for 400 or less.

But for Alpine everything under the 9887 is 2 band EQ, cd player and tuner, that's it. You have to pay more money for almost everything when there are other comparably priced units made by good brands that offer them built in for a comparable price. I just am having trouble seeing what makes this new line stand out for some people. IS there some spec I'm not looking at that puts it head and shoulders above the rest? All I ever hear is 'Alpine is best' but I have no clear understanding of why that is.

what are you talking about... I got my 9887 for $280 brand new and it does all of the t/a and eq. Only difference between the 9887 and the pioneer is that the pioneer comes with the mic, the alpine you have to buy seperate IF you want to use imprint, but you can set all of those specs up yourself. I would have went with the pioneer, but I like the alpines iPod functions better, and I also don't like how most of the stuff is controlled with one knob on the pioneer.

You obviously are uneducated based on your sig...

I get his point about alpine charging extra for features that are include with alot of other head units, i have a 9887 and love it but feel that alpine is just riding their name and knows they can get away with selling those accesories.

Alpine is not the best, I don't believe any brand is when it comes to this.

I use an Alpine 9887 myself, and I love it. I don't like the way Pioneer's user interface is, and I had a Kenwood before this one which I liked but didn't have all the features I was looking for.

Now, obviously, some of what you pay for an Alpine headunit is for the brand, since Alpine does a considerable amount more of advertising then some other companies, that money has to come from somewhere. I don't think they have any features that put them 'head and shoulders' ahead of the rest, but I do think they offer some nice features at a decent price point with a nice user interface. Also, if your paying retail for a 9887, you shouldn't be using one.
