Why do people put enormous bass in their cars?

Just wondering. When I was in high school I had a Tahoe and put two Brahma 15's in the back with 1200w each on them. **** it was loud. I used to listen to rap and hip-hop since that is just about the only stuff that uses subs like that. Now that I am a bit older I just want a 10-12" sub to add some kick drum to the music I listen to. No more rap.
If you do, why do you go "overboard" with the subs?

My reasons used to be:

1. Cool with friends

2. The "feeling"

3. Other people were doing it?

What are your reasons and if you have stopped going hardcore in recent years what do you find adequate these days?
my answer to everyone that asks me is

Because I Can

I love sq stereos. I was thinking about getting something huge, but I just don't enjoy my music as much when it farts loud as hell. Don't get me wrong, I like loud music, but it needs to sound good.

I had a pair of IDMAX 12s sealed on a US Amps 2000, and that thing sounded insane.

I hate these bass boxes on wheels so stupid and pointless. That is not music it is noise just to annoy people and get there attention. If anyone goes by me or pulls up beside me in one of these things i look right at them and laugh. Probably never got attention as a child so they are trying to get it now.
You jealous? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

The "high", shittin on em with one 15.. and because I could..
I brought DD to my hood yo..

But not seriously in the small town I am from, DD is everywhere now. It all started from all of my blown 9515s haha
One reason I miss having my L7 back before Kicker became huge. It was hilarious running into guys with these big-*** setups with four Audiobahns or Xplod subs and me with just one L7 blowing them outta the water.

Now the game's all changed and I gotta step it up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

To prove to myself I could build a loud stereo with minimal investment due to the fact when I was in high school and doing it because everyone else was doing it my system sucked. I dropped tons of money in it over 3 years of half-assed upgrades.

My front stage sounds like shit. Blown factory speakers and all. But you can't hear them off HU power because of the bass anyways. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Not at all I love to hear everything that is going on in a piece of music. SQ FTW
And some people like the physical part of the system. If I want to appreciate the nuances of my Opeth albums I'll sit at home with my high-end headphones on. When I'm driving I like something I can feel. Or if I want to listen to something complex, drop the bass output. But sometimes ya just need Da Boom. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
