why do companies do this?

parts express for example (well im assuming the costs reflect what they are from the mfg, so keep that in mind, not blaming PE):

why do 2 4" aeros cost $27.80

and 1 6" aero costs $37.96 (not listed yet, but thats the price they gave me. said they recieved them last friday)

3"^2 less port area with the 4's for $10 bucks less. im assuming the 4" also takes twice the work since you make 2 of them, and more material is used, but the cost is less than 1 6" port.

no real purpose to this thread, just felt like *****ing.

well that is a little excessive but *sometimes* you pay more for the initial charge - the materials probaly cost them very little compared to the labor...

like when i work at a resturant - you can buy one pizza and get a second one free ect.. the pizza themselves each cost them like $1 to make but you pay $12 - either way they still make money

or when you have something delivered - i've had computer parts ordered that cost like $10 in shipping - but ive ordered dozens of parts at once that cost only like $20 - its money for them to come to your house - not how much they bring (to an extent)

true. and i can understand that.

but if a 4" pizza cost $13.90, and a 6" pizza cost $37.96, i would buy up the 4" pizzas as in the end, i can buy 3 4" pizzas for $3 more than 1 6" pizza.

Arrizx: yea lol. probably was made in some crazy *** expensive machine that can mass produce them in minutes. but the question still stands, why is there such a big difference in price.

hell, lets say you want the same port area as 2 6" aeros (well, almost). you can buy 4 4" aeros and get a price cut to $12.50 a piece, while the 6" will cost you $38 a piece until you get to the 4+ ports discount.

supply and demand. People will buy them at that price, therefore there is a market for it at that price. If poeple didn't buy them at such a high price, either they wouldn't make them or the price would fall.

people are stupid then...

then again...i already knew that.

If more people buy the 4" versions, you can produce more of them and make them cheaper because you're producing a large amount of them. If you're producing a small amount, like the 6", then the price per unit will increase.

I ordered some small PCBs over the summer at work and it cost me less to buy 100 of them than it did to buy the 10 that I needed. With 10 of them, I was looking at about $2.50 per board or I could do 100 for $0.15 each. You do the math.

They probably sell far more 4" ports so their cost is less per unit.
probably because the 6" ports are over priced compared to the 4" lol.

still seems like more material used. why not try to "force" people to buy the 6" by giving a good price, saving material, and increasing profits?

at least thats how i see it. truth is im sure they might have already thought about that, and decided against it.

Because the market isn't as solid for 6" aeros like it is for 4". That's what we're saying. And no, it's not because they're over priced. I would bet that if they priced them the same as the 4", they would still sell more 4" aeros. You need to think about the big market -- which is not you or me but rather people mass producing enclosures with aero ports. When is the last time you have seen a 6" aero on a pre-fab enclosure?

and how do you know what the market is like for 6" aeros? you dont have numbers from the company do you?

if they sold 6's the same price as 4's i would doubt they would sell the same number of 4's. they simply sell more 4's because they are cheaper, IMO.

the big market is all well and dandy, but who are you to say that they dont use 4" ports because they can make more money off the prefab box by using 2 4's versus 1 6? do you build prefab enclosures? do you work for a prefab company?

not trying to be a dick. im just saying, its mostly speculation from your end as well as mine. i do know one thing though, 2 4's are cheaper than 1 6. so why even produce the 6" at all if your not selling any?
