Why did this sub blow up

Ok, for someone who can give me an hypothesis..

There are 2 solo x10s in a box that is 3.35cu ft tuned to 38hz with one 40.1. These coils sit at 1.6ohms and wrere wired in series/parralel. Brand new facotry sealed subs..

one got hot, the other stays cool...

had that happen to some pioneer premiers. instead of sub blowing, sent shorts to the amp and popped the mosfets.
