Why Did My Amp Explode?

Hum ... i finished wiring my stuff today and hooked up the amp to my sub. instead of the joy of hearing heart pounding bass ... the amp began to smoke. there are 3 fuses between the battery and the amp ... yet none of them blew. it's a hifonics BX1500D amplifier .. we looked inside and only one little thingy had blown ... what's up? anyone know? we assumed falty amp ... :-/

hmm, well a low impedance would cause the amp to draw more power, which should pop the fuses, unless it has protection for low impedance, but then that should not have smoked the amp. Sounds like a $300 for 1500watt amp fault to me.

They are dual 4 ohm wired to 1 ohm. we have 4 gauge power and ground. and in the manual it says that if the impedence is wired below capability ... the fuses would blow.

my PG T1200.1 was $315, and it was benched at 1490W+ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

and who knows what value those fuses were...

sound like u let the smoke out of that thing. Was ur ground and power wire wired correctly.

yup, we checked the wires for 30 minutes. no sign of any fuses or anything, just that one part inside that was fickled up. :-/ ... I have another bx1500d in my closet, but now im wary to hook it up out of fear that itll go up too ... ah.

The only thing I could think of was that we wanted to test it out so we just ran it to one sub ... but still that would cause an impedance issue, which would blow a fuse ... i'm just baffled as to what it is, and like i said i'm wary about hooking up the spare. what's the chance they'll both go?

Have an ohm meter? Check the resistance of the ground.

Nope, the amp didn't, in any way, get wet.

As for checking the ground .. i myself don't have a meter but i think tomorrow my friend and i are gonna ride to the local stereoshop and ask them some stuff, like whether or not to hook up the other amp ... i'll see if they have a meter there to check the ground.
