Why did JL do this?

i do like the idea of the regulated amps. even if they do it mainly for they're subs, it's still a handy feature. with that you don't have to really worry as much about your vc config.
Yeh its ok unless u need to drop ohm because you have a lesser quality sub or what not

But i like the voltage regulation

You put a JL into a shitty prefab box or use a shitty amp and it won't sound good. The enclosure design and overall install is key to tapping into the potential of your speaker. Most people think the problem is the sub and not the box, so if it sounds bad and they see the JL logo, they'll think that all JLs sound bad. So you can understand why a manufacturer would not want you to simply throw it in prefab box. Instead, they want you to buy their amps and their boxes, which although are very expensive, are designed specifically to work for their products.

jl is a good company
Thanks for the info.

I like JL stuff, and my friend has a pair of 13w3v2's in a ported box he had built at a local store, and they hit pretty **** hard. Although considering he paid $500+ for his box and subs, and my sealed box that I built with 2 type R's cost under $200 and has about the same SQ, I couldn't be happier. Just my $.02
