Why cant i Connect my Blackberry mp3 player to my car stereo?

i went to radio shack and bought the head phone jack to rca plug. and also bought the 3.5 mm jack to 2.5 mm jack, this jack was specificly for wireless phones with mp3 players so you can plug into a stereo. so when i connected it to my phone and pluged the rca's into the auxilery inputs in my player it didnt work. i changed the "source" on the cd player to "aux input" i played a song and you can hear the song still playing out from the phone speaker and nothing frtom the car speakers. i tried to see if there was a "head set - enable or disable" in the options of my phone but there wasnt....can anyone explain to my why its not working?
