CarAudio.com Newbie
Hi All,
I have a 2015 Mazda 6 station wagon with a Bose system. I have some decent gear which last saw use in a car I had in the 1990s:
Dynaudio 2-way components (7” woofer with 3” voice coils, and soft-dome 1” tweeters). I am currently installing the woofers in the front doors, and will work out tweeter location later.
2 x JL Audio 10” dual voice coil subs (First Gen 10W6s) which I will ultimately build a box for (awaiting new spiders and foam surrounds from the States).
An Alpine MRV-1000 (2 x 100W RMS) 2-channel amp.
MB Quart 2-way components, for the rear doors.
I will keep the Bose Head Unit.
The immediate, short-term plan is to remove the Bose amp and replace it with the MRV-1000. Only the Dynaudios will be in use in this scenario. Based on my previous install, I predict that SQ, bass and volume will exceed that of the 11 speaker OEM system.
The longer term plan is to buy a 4-channel amp, which will drive both sets of component speakers. The MRV-1000 will drive the subs. I will build a sub box which will be fitted behind the seats. I will consider time alignment/processing (eg JL Audio FiX-86) here too.
THE IMMEDIATE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THIS:
Although I have found a very good run-down of the Bose HU/amp interaction on a Mazda forum, the post did not indicate how you would interface the differential-balanced HU outputs to a ‘normal’ amp ie. like the MRV-1000, which takes unbalanced RCA inputs only.
I have read about the possibility of ‘splicing’ the differential outputs from the HU into an RCA plug – BUT NOTHING ABOU HOW? So, I have a few questions:
Does one wire go to the pin (ie. centre conductor) on the RCA plug, and the other go to the shield?
Is noise cancelling therefore lost in this configuration?
Is the loss of noise cancelling really an issue when the Alpine amp does not care about high frequencies (ie. in low-pass mode to power subs)?
The differential-balanced and lack of F/R fader capability
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
