So I got a new amp to solve a previous tuning problem with my speakers. I have 2 6x9's, (2) 5 1/4's and (2) 6.5 components.
I got an Alpine MRV 450, 5 channel amp to run them. The 6x9's are hooked up as the sub channel.
The speakers are all CDT EF series. They are all rated 165 watts RMS. The amp is rated 50x4 + the sub channel.
The problem is with the components. I set the deck to an output freq. of 150 hz, tuned the crossovers on the amp to 150 hz, turned the deck to a volume setting of 30 out of 35 to prevent clipping, and turned the gains about 3/4 of the way up on the amp. The speakers are not distorting or over bassing.
If I leave it turned up for a while, I smell voice coil overheating. The amp is not putting out enough power to overdrive the speakers (50w vs. 165w), and the power seems very clean.
whats up?
