The Drunken Snowman
Fact: The Council of Nicea (325 A.D.) was not a close vote, 300 bishops from throughout the Empire arrived to discuss the Arius, teaching that the Son was created, and therefore not God incarnate, the vote was 300 to 2…not close at all. Arius did not believe the Son was mortal but the first of creation.
NOOOT true.
What they fail to mention were the Bishops that were pretty much driven out of the council, because they could not reconcile with what the majority would have them believe... some of these arguments involved which gospels to include. Some of the gospels left out were the ones mentioned on this page as those discrediting a lot of the bible.
Again, this was a political move. At a time when Christians as a whole were being persecuted, they didn't have time for people to "think for themselves." They needed to put in the heads of their followers exactly what they wanted them to believe. Hence the book of John. If you read the book of John, it is VERY "faith-based." Meaning, he basically walks around and says, "Ok Jesus, whatever you say!"
The Book of Thomas is MUCH different, in which Jesus is presenting ideas to Thomas and asking him to think on their meaning, rather than just taking what he says literally.
Again, I did a paper on this, and all of my information on this subject was taken from other published books that researched these dead sea scrolls and lost gospels.
I'd be more than happy to provide the name of my most useful resource when I get back home and find my paper. hell.. I'll post my paper if anyone is interested in it.
