What are some of the requirements in order to get a job in most shops installing? I've heard of MECP certification, but didn't know how many places actually used that.

Im not installing. The shop has a separate building for that. Hurricane katrina wiped out their original shop and so theyre in the mall, with an install shop in another location... plus I hate workin gon GM's...

It's a great industry but always changing so you have to be into learning every little new thing that comes out in order to stay on top of it.

I worked at CC as installer for a while.... great job. I miss the hell out of it. Quitting for school FTL.

I wouldn't want to be an installer, but a sales guy would be a good PT job. I'm actually going to try working at BB next Christmas (discount on Dyson vacuum, and TV). I was told last year by my friend who has worked there a long long time, that some PT'rs work one day a week. Maybe they'd stick me in CA. Then I could tell customers to buy Zed amps and have them look at me like "WTF?". haha.

Its called T.O.S. Enterprises... stands for Thunder of Slidell.

Its a locally owned shop that some people I know referred me to. I got a decent deal on the subs I bought there and the helped me a lot with my wiring issues, cause I knew nothing about DVC subs at the time... And the people who run the place are fairly knowledgeable and its nice to just hang out there and talk about subs and tweeters and stuff...

I gotta learn how to use the embroidery machine (we also do school uniforms and custom embroidery) cause the guy that does it now is opening his own shop in a couple weeks, and Im also going to be sales... Im gonna laugh my *** off at the first person who comes in and even LOOKS at the pyle blue wave (A.K.A. Audiobling flame series with the pyle logo on it)....

I was going to get into car audio a year ago..

signed up for that car audio school's 3 month program..

than my dad was like "Wtf are u stupid?" and pulled the plug...

then after I was like I still want to work for a shop.. so I called every shop in a reasonable distance for a sales or installer position or anything...

and they all told me "Business is slow we can't afford to hire anyone" so that made the descision for me....

I worked in both a shop, as well as CC for over 2 years.

I'm so glad I'm not installing anymore. I grew to HATE installing.

Especially when out of your group of friends youre the only one with the knowledge to do so... so you end up doing their installs and because youre a friend they wanna lowball you, and so Im like f**k that, youre paying me, and no the box doesnt come with the subs... thats an extra 50 bucks, which is less than I paid to build it you little punk!

Oh wait... lol I went off on a rant. Anyways, I hate doing my OWN installs, much less that of others. Which is why im in sales

I do work for dealerships, primarily used car lots. They get repos in where people have tried to install amps and alarms and stolen the stereo out. It sucks playing clean up and having to pull power wires out that are run thru door jambs. It's quick money though so I can't complain to much.

I have seen PLENTY of vehicles that are from repo's or that are new to a used car dealer and the wiring is just ATROCIOUS!!!

I can't imagine installing a remote start or alarm in one of those...just looks like spaghettie!
