I carpool now with 2 others. It is gay at times, but I fill up once a week instead of every 3 days.

Pat on back for you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Cant wait until I can fill up once every 2 weeks (even with only getting 10MPG).

Of all the things affecting the gas prices the President has such a small...small...small maybe .1% affect on that.
Lack of refineries (Pres has no control)

Tapping into reserves (pres has control, but this wont lower prices one bit due to the supply being less than demand)

OPEC (pres has minimal amount of effect. All he can do is beg for lower cost per barrel)(too bad OPEC sells for what people will buy for so its not going to do anything)

Nation that wants to become less dependent on oil (pres has already offered tax breaks on hybrids, soler energy breaks, and much more)

Are you Dubya's nephew or something? If you believe that, I have some oceanfront property in Chicago I can sell you. Was he not an OIL tycoon before he got into politics? All of that stuff you wrote is what they tell you. They just took over an oil rich country where the guy they had killed had gold tubs and all of that. But yet the prices still go up. Cheney = Haliburton, Bush = oil. Combined they equal profiting from a war while america suffers. ****ed up thing is a lot of people realize this and can't do anything about it. All we will do in 09 is joke about how much he sucked.

I would hardly call Bush a tycoon.

The winters here don't get all that cold....but in NY, I probably wouldn't.
I remember biking to school during the winters when I was a kid living in NY, at times, it was so cold, it hurt to breath!

And god forbid you pedal fast, the frezzing breeze was capable of frezzing your eyeballs in their sockets!

Flip, can you explain oil futures....aren't speculators raising the price of oil, and in turn...gas?

NOT having an SUV in the winter sucks when you have to commute 18 or so miles one way on back roads to work. I wish I felt safe in a front wheel drive car that gets better mileage but I don't.
I feel you, but, I use a front wheel to commute my 97 miles out of the WV mountains, about 24 of those miles are on back roads and sometimes unplowed "Paved" roads //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Not only speculations, but pension funds and a variety of other massive financial organizations are investing in oil futures.

Generically, an oil future is the delivery for a quantity of barrels of oil of a particular grade at a particular time. Say, for instance, I can buy one contract of 40,000 barrels of light sweet at the price of $130/bl for Aug delivery. If the spot (current) price increase above $130/bl, then the value of my future increases. The actual transfer of cash is marked to market daily. However, the value of the future can deviate from the spot price if conditions warrent it.

IMO, this is just another bubble...only this time, it effects a larger group of people.
