just a word of advice: if you do decide on JLs, don't buy from the major stores (Tweeter, Mobil1, Car Toys, etc.) I mean look at the old 15" W3... Car Toys still sells that thing for like $379.95, and you can get two on ebay for about $300...

also... there's nothing wrong with being wary of "underground" brands. although when it comes down to warranties, they're usually far more dependable than major brands that everyone's familiar with. however, it's completely your choice, and i can understand why you'd want to stick with a brand that people have heard of //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But if I bought the subs off of ebay or some other online store, I won't have any type of warranty at all would I? The W3v2 at Tweeters is only $219, I dont know if that is alot or a little thats why I cam here to get some peoples opinions about mainstream companies.

i just took out 2 12" JL W3v2's and replaced them with

2 12" RE SE's...

i am supposed to sell the JL's to my friend... and i feel bad

for selling such crappy subs now that ive heard the SE's...

the JL's are nice... i ran them sealed... they didnt have

too much SPL... and the SQ compared to the SE's is

garbage...

if your afraid of going underground... i was too... but

you will get FAR SUPERIOR subs at a better price...

the SE's i can speak for personally... but everyone says

that the adire's are very comparable... meaning... they

must kick serious @ss!!!

dont overpay the inferior mainstream...

The W3v2 is a good woofer and you will like the way it sounds. You would probably like the Alpine Type R as well. You can get more for your money if you go underground but you would be happy with the above.

Well since your so bent on mainstream ask the shops. They will know all about mainstream products. When your ready for a real system come back. They always do.

Ok nice way to push someone away from the forums. The local shop is just recommending the L7s. They say that JL is way over priced (which I agree) and that an L7 would take any JL in SPL anyday. I told them I wanted nice sound quality as well as SPL but more of SQ. I feel more confident buying from a company that has been around for a while and that I have actually heard thats all. The way you guys talk, RE and Adire and all of them sound really good, I am just hesitant about buying from them. Any more recommendations?

Go with the Kicker, I don't think you'll be disappointed. YOu have to think, Sound Quality is purely subjective. I personally don't think an SE can shake a stick at, let alone be compared to the W7, but that's me. 2 totally different drivers with different objectives. Given a proper install the L7s should pound out some serious bass and still sound pretty good. You can buy some Jensens if you like. If they sound good to you, that's all that matters, NOT what salesmen, friends, or people on here say.

I agree with you about the opinions. I am just hestitant to go underground so called. I wanted something for under $230 but that has really good SQ and nice decent bass.

I may eventually look more into the internet companies but as of now, I want to stay mainstream.

Ok so thats what I have been trying to figure out for the last few days... Under $500 for the subs and under $300 for the amp to power the two subs.

i dont know what a W7 sounds like... but its nearly a thousand

dollar sub... i dont think the SE's could be compared to a W7...

from what ive read kicker is all about SPL... so again i wouldnt

compare the SE to the kicker...

this poster said that he wants a 60/40 split... the SE's may not

be loud enough... the SX's might not have enough SQ...

this poster said he wants to only spend 500 on the subs...

2 JL W3v2's could be had for that... the alpine type r's could

be had for that...

i can definately vouch for RE... but it is a wait while they build

and test the subs before shipping them out... if the poster

cannot wait or is afraid to buy online then he should get

the mainstream subs...

i just think he would be a lot happier and get a better deal

avoiding the mainstream...

there is a ton of subjectivity here.... its all about leaps of faith

and leveraging advice...

Two 12" RE SE's... (less than $400 shipped). Then i'd look into a tsunami1100d, or an avionixx 1200.2 (Both can be had for less than $300). peace

You can get two Shivas for $250 or less and they sound very similar to the W3v2s ported, if not slightly louder and deeper. An amp for the Shivas would be cheap as well. You can get a Kicker KX600.1 brand new on eBay for around $250.00 I believe. Even properly installed, those L7s cannot come very close to the SQ of W3v2s properly installed. The Type-R or PG Tis would be better for that 60/40 SQ/SPL mix you're aiming for, that is if you don't want to dish out the money for W3v2s or try Adire out.

I have heard both the Type Rs and the Infinitys. SQ wise the infinity's took the cake in a 1cu ft sealed per driver. 2 12s at 300w each. I ran that setup for 2 years and got many compliments from people on their SQ and believe it or not, they knocked. The type R's are a very comparable driver. Pick either.

I'm not a fan of rockford any more. JL always seems like a ripoff and trendy at that.

If you want mainstream, I'd go with the Infinity Perfects. I can attest to that setup. It was plenty for a small sedan for daily. If you want to be unique, go Adire, RE, or Image Dynamics. All 3 make excellent subs.
