What i'd give for those setups.... I'd probably go for the 2 15's. I'm getting a 12" Mag tomorrow hopefully..**** package is taking forever. I'd take either of those setups over 13w7 or 4 8w7's any day no questions asked.

I got the surface area for the 8s

8/2=4, 4^2=16, 16 x 3.14 (pie) = 50.24, 50.24"^2 x 4 (4 subs) = 200.96"^2 of surface area. Did I do something wrong?

The SPL graph I made was just another comparison of the 2 setups, I know those wouldnt have been the ACTUAL results.

No debating what you said in your whole post about sens ratings because you are right but wouldnt a xmax test only work for sealed enclosures?

Yes. In the JL spec ported boxes, the 8s will have about a 1 dB advantage with equal power. Of course the box for the 8's is about 1.5 times as big the 8s will cost twice as much and the difference is probably not going to be distinguishable. This is all theoretical, of course. Given the limitation of using a single 500/1 and the wiring required to fall within it's impedance range, the 13 would most likely gain the advantage because the series/parallel wiring of the 8s would introduce some induced electrical interference likely cancelling out that lone dB. The 13 would probably sound better also for the same reason.

I'd still jump all over that deal.

You used speaker nominal diameter rather than effective piston area (Sd). The Nominal diameter counts the surround and mounting area which don't contribute to the ability of the piston to move air. The Sd spec is given on the JL site.

2 Mag 15's & IA 20.1 pwns 13w7 & 1000/1. Dont get caught up in brand names...There are just as high of quality products for a hell of alot less than JL sells for.
