Which amp for a brand new Alpine SWS-12D4?

The box says 500W RMS and 1500W max but an installer I spoke to today swore up and down that it can only handle 300 RMS and 500 max. Is he full of it? I'm not sure what amp I need now. Before talking to the installer, I was looking at the Alpine MRP-M500. Is that a good entry level amp? Is it appropriate for this sub?

Thanks!

I realized I shouldn't make you guys hunt for the specs in that press release. Here is what it says...

"Alpine Introduces 12 New Subwoofers and Unified Sub Box Program"

(Jan. 10, 2012)

...

SWS-12D4 Dual 4-ohm 12-inch Subwoofer

CEA-2031 Speaker Specifications: 500W RMS, 1000 Peak Power Handling

Frequency response: 26 hertz – 200 hertz

Mounting Depth: 5 7/8-inches

Available: March

MAP: $149.95

S series should be 300 rms. Something like this Crossfire C3 501 should work. 340 at 2ohms and set the gains right.
Alpine stepped up this time around. The S is rated at 500 and the E series is rated at 250 haha.

Get an amp that does 500 RMS at 2 ohms.
This. Like the MRP-500 you had in mind if you get it for the right price.

That amp will power an entry level setup...but if you wanted to compete, I probably wouldn't have gone with an Alpine sub in the first place..
This too.
