When people say ported enclosures are "louder", what does that mean?

if I could build a sealed box that would even come close to my ported one I would happily do it I need the hatch space
amen to that. So far in the "beating the **** out of my car with a single 12-15 inch sub" No sealed setup has ever impressed me in that aspect, they sound good, but by no means are they satisfactory in loudness.

sealed boxes are for SQ (sound quality)
I don't believe this at all. Many subs below .60 QTS can have excellent group delay characteristics in correctly designed ported box compared to sealed boxes down to around 50hz. The most important bass range for low group delay is around 60hz+.

Getting "SQ" in the sub 40hz range is silly, especially since the music that "SQ" is needed for rarely ever reaches the sub 40hz range.
