Should you trim back the carpet? Is it required to use a sealant or special screws? Guy at audio shop said use bigger screws than drywall. What measures should be taken when installing them?

I was going to suggest the carper to be cut as well for total sealence of the enclosure.. I never use drywall screws, usually 1 1/2 wood screws unless your using more than 1500-2000 watts.

I just didn't know if you were serious, not dumping on anything/anyone.

No joke! ID sends a gasket material and most others nothing. I have seen some just go right on the carpet but wondered about trimming it back. Then I also thought iif you don't get a gasket why not seal it good with sealer to bare wood. I did get #10 wood screws instead of drywall (what my last box had).

Guess it depends on how exact the hole is to your mounting diameter...I trimmed the carpet on my box with a little overhang...dropped the sub in...was very snug but sucked right in with the screws (TC Sounds...came with custom screws)...has no air leaks at all

When buying t-nuts, also check the saw aisle.

if the sub has a rubber gasket you should cut out the carpet so that the rubber can seal on the wood.

if not i would leave the carpet and mount the metal basket directly on it, the carpet will be squeezed and act like a sealing between the hard wood and metal.

best thing would be to use drive-in nuts and machine screws.

no matter how often you put the sub in and out, they will last forever.
