What's the MOST amount of miles you would purchase buying a used car?

Any car, regardless of import vs domestic, as long as its not a piece of crap to start with if taken care of properly can last well over 150k
the truf

a newer car (id say 00 and up)

will last you a good 200k miles

do the maintance and dont put off stuff like rotating tires, oil changes, spark plug and wires.

The little stuff you do can help prevent big problems later

true, some stuff must be replaced before it complety goes, like a timing belt/chain.

If you wait till that goes, you can easyily turn a $300 fix into a $1k+ fix

my girlfriends 98' grand cherokee has ~225k miles on it and it runs like a top. sounds just as smooth as a brand new one and doesn't leave no puddles in the driveway from anything. maintenance is something to pay more attention to than the mileage, but of course every owner of a used car will tell you they took good care of it.

i bought my 99 acura integra with 114k on it, bought it off the sec owner. it was well taken care of, so far the only problem i have had is a faulty catalatic converter..

my mechanic seggest's a timeing belt replacement and valve clearance re- adjustment in the near future.

other then that it run's great.

I would buy it.... Honda, acura, toyota, those cars will run past 200k in a lot of instances I have seen first hand. If you are looking at ford's or chevy or something I wouldn't expect another 100k if it already has 100k, maybe 60-70k though if it was and will be taken care of. That's really what any car will come down to. If it was maintained, fluids were changed on time, wasn't driven to redline or dropped the clutch, etc. it will generally last a long time. Abuse it, and it will die much quicker

my 95 camaro z28 is about to hit 200,000 with the original clutch and its still gripping good and running great. just need to fix my a/c

my brother has a 93 hatch with a b18c1 that has a couple mods done to it and he takes it to the track and its about to hit 300,000 miles

depends on the maintenance i guess

Just depends on how the vehicle has been service and maintained. My gf just sold her 1999 tacoma 4cyl. 5-speed that had 183k miles on it. Only thing ever replaced on the truck besides maintenance items was a starter. Truck ran great, didn't leak a single drop, burned no oil and still had the original clutch, alternator, water pump, etc.

Saturn I have now had 144k on it, now has 167k

Bought a Jeep with over 220k on it, sold it with over 270k

Moral of the story is don't be dumb //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

My vw jetta has 360,000. The only problem I'm having is the drivers seat is wearing out.

I've seen a couple Ford vans at work over 400k. Take care of something and it lasts. A one owner car thats well maintained is well worth a premium.

had a '90 camry that was at 258k, my first car

still ran like a dream

if I was buying a newer car I would try not top 100k, but if my price range wouldnt allow it, I could go a little bit higher

remember, acura = honda's luxury line, so you know youre getting a quality engine

do some research on msn autos on the 'quirks' of the car u are lookin at before u buy it (also has reliability ratings and such, plus TONS of specs). can save u from future headaches, such as particular models having lots of issues -- the user reviews on there are VERY helpful for finding problem areas.

I bought a car with over 200,000 the dealer lied to me when I purchased it, and I couldn't do a **** thing about it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif The car ran strong for a good 30,000 before I got rid of it though, and was running great at the time I sold it.
That's why you ask them for a carfax report. If they can't give you a 5 dollar report when you're about to drop a few grand with them, they are not worth dealing with.

That doesn't necessarily mean it was never in for service
