So i have a new orion h2 15...but i'm never gonna have enough power for it...i have a 1200d on the way and will be getting a ho alt but don't want to push anymore than that 1200 watts. Thats probalby cutting it a little short for that sub. SHould i just underpower it, or try to trade it off for something else...probably an SX or something?

SX would be an awesome woofer. I personally would try out a Stereo Integrity D2. They are supposed to sound amazing and get pretty loud.

not supposed, they do.

About the h2 try it out with the 1200D it might just fit the bill, dont sell somthing short, try it out first. If it its isnt good enough then find somthin new.

^^ when i origanally bought it i was told it would do just fine off the 1200 watts...just been reading some things lately that were making me think otherwise. Plus i don't have the money for a mag even though i'd love one. I think i will try it out/keep it till i get a new car becasue i have a feeling i will be driving a new civic by next year this time and am not gonna have room for a 15 so i might as well wait till then to upgrade/change setup....

I've never heard one myself so I can't really comment that well. Thats why I chose the word "supposed." //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

goose: If you are worried about size later on, why not invest wisely and get some sort of 12? Just my two cents.

Becuase i already had this sub and had it before i knew i would be getting a different car. I guess you missed the part where i said i already had the sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I gave my opinion, also you were talking about trading off the H2 in your fist post.

wanna trade for two type r 12's?
I'll think about it for sure....I'm probably gonna hook it up this weekend regardless, we'll see how that goes first //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

It should do fine. Unless you are competing, you won't notice the 2ish dB you might get from an amp twice as big, and your electrical system will thank you.

I keep hearing "you're underpowering that sub" on this forum. 99% of the folks saying that don't know what they are talking about. It may be rated for that amount of power but it doesn't 'need' it to get loud, in a daily driver sense anyway. Rated power is how much a sub voice coil can theoretically handle. It doesn't take enclosure or frequency into the equation. In many cases, you can get full excursion from a sub (and thus full potential) with much less power. This is dictated by the enclosure and the frequency in question. If you actually plan on listening to music with the system, you won't use most of the power you have anyway.
