So young guy contacted me and needed an amp and didn't have much money so I sold him a concept 1252 and 4 gauge wiring kit for 60 bucks. He's obviously new to car audio. He called me and told me the amp started smelling and so I walked him through trouble shooting. He had a bad ground and gains maxed. Would you help the guy out and give him another amp... or should I let him learn a lesson the hard way?

The only real reason I ask is I've been in the hobby for 20 years or so. Back in the day we would help the newbs and help when we could. I hate to leave him in the cold. Could be a future hobbyist. I guess this is directed to people who remember the good old days of audio. Would you help him with another amp, give him his money back or just tell him fug off?

Well, He should of asked If he was unsure. Kinda not your fault bro. I think we have all made mistakes and learned from that.

If you have a extra amp & feel the need to give it to him. Well go ahead.

The best lessons are often learned the hard way. I would offer to sell him another at a discounted price with some advice. Or just give him some advice and he can get an amp else where. Unless of course you're just that nice of a guy and have an extra amp you don't care about getting money back on laying around.

Me personally, would offer my advice/install help on his next amp purchase, whether that be from you or someone else. If you love it enough then you love teaching others. Like you said, he could become a serious hobbyist one day.

If you have another one cheap, sell it to him n show him how to do it. I was dumb when I was 15 and did the same thing (not the ground but with the gain and melted a cheapo sdx amp, somebody showed me how to correctly do it and what to watch for and ever since I've been good. Sometimes it just takes a little show and tell to get somembody headed in the right direction.

A kid bought my wife's RF P2 15 in prefab ported box for 120 off CL. I saw the amp he was going to hook it up to (Kicker ZX1500.1) and told him he better be really careful cause that amp could push 5 P2's. Lol! He looked at me like I didn't know what the fuck I was talking about. An hour later he calls me and said I sold him a blown P2. Haha! He heard it in my trunk before he bought it. Fuqqin' newbs... Moral of the story, fuck em'.

I'll let him sweat for a bit and then I'll help him. I don't think I'll ever take the **** em stance. Just not my nature. It won't be a free hand out but he's going to get a lesson in a proper install.

I'd give him a replacement, walk him through setting the gains. If he ever needs something built, or a product you have, tell him to come to you first. That way you will make your money back and he will assume you are just a nice guy. Win win.

I'd give him some tips and suggestions, but that's it. Help him get his next amp set properly, too.
