What would make a midbass freeze and not work anymore?

Got a set of components which I ran for about a year off at about 110 watts, which the speakers could take. The gains were set right when they were amped, now the speakers were in my old car which I gave to my brother and he only had them running off deck power and one day he said they were not playing anymore. Any reason they would freeze and no longer play? Not gonna throw out the speaker name since it could have been user error and not the companys fault.

freeze like ethe coil seized up and you cant push in the cone? or they just arent playing?
Thats exactly it, I couldn't push the coil in. They were stated at 160, and I was sending them about 120. I had the gains low and set them accordingly. I mean its more than likely thats what happened, but they actually stopped working when they were running with just HU power and no amp.

These were 6.5" mids from a component set, running passive and the tweeters still work fine.
