What Will Get Loud And Clean On 1k Of Power??

Is it possible to try the unit out in a test box before investing in an all-out customized one?
haha o man im just full of problems....well eastern pa is not known for tons of audio places....actually there's none within an hour of me....I also won't deal with people who are mean so that really limits the choices.

I would like to do a test but I don't know where I could test it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

1. JL is overpriced.2. Many subs have more potential w/1000 watts.

Don't take it the wrong way.. the W7 is an ALRIGHT driver, mediocre at best..

So many different companies have better build quality, potential & customer service.

If you couldn't make the decision by yourself, I don't see this sub lasting very long.. that is where the customer service part comes in handy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Plus, I just wouldn't buy from a company that puts 3 ohm coils JUST so you buy their amps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
JL is overpriced. Mediocre at best? I wouldn't quite say that. For the cost to quality ratio, in those terms, yes I would agree, but nonetheless they make really good products, not saying make the best, but I'd still keep them in the running amongst the subs mentioned. I haven't owned JL, but have heard a few setups and they did impress me.

Well, I didn't go through this entire thread so I'm not sure what was said, but if you have some basic woodworking skills you can bang off a test box yourself and try it out. Run it for a couple of weeks to see if you could live with it. If so, then start searching for a reputable place to build a nice custom box for you.

Ok well money is an issue for me but it's all or nothing....

So what I did was do some research and put some feelers out and found a shop who can do it for me near phili with a decent price.

I got an even better price from a guy who would do the build himself...hes definitely reputable and has been in the biz for like 10 yrs so im not worried. I think as of now, he'll be doing the build.

I'm not really good with making my own boxes and to try and build a ported one is even crazier if im not going to even use it in my final project. Maybe I can have the box made first for it and see how it is and if its not good i could find another one of the subs...q max icon w/e that could still work in the same box.

Can't see why not. Of course, each driver will react differently in the same box as the box itself may not be based on the manufacturer's recommendations (size, port tuning, etc). You need to be prepared for that.

Also, ensure you have enough rearward clearance to accommodate other drivers since the others you chose may be deeper than the JL. Also, mounting hole size may be an issue as well.

Do you have a hardware store nearby that could cut the wood for you? If so, then you can bang a test box together in a day or two. Its a small price to pay for piece of mind...

Maybe a lowes or home depot i guess...i read on one of the threads that theyre cuts were as much as 1/4" off of what was requested but i dont care about that. Also, ahah that JL is pretty **** deep...9.something inch depth. And since I've never even built a box idk that i wanna trust my work and put the dub7 to action in it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

As far as the cutout size, that would be definitely something to check but not too big of a deal. Also, the w7 i got is brand new //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif so idk how long the break in time is....i hear all the time that this sub or that sub SUCKED sooo bad for like 2 months and then it just got in the groove and was perfect. So even the test runs won't be too great.

Just throwing some options out there for you. Sounds like its pretty much a done deal since you already purchased the driver. You might as well just go for it and get your custom box done up. I'm sure you will be satisfied with it.

Yeah but I def appreciate all your help. As it is I'll prob have the build done with it first...and ill prob be extremely happy soo yeah....ill have to post a build log if i can get one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yup. Some folks have excellent luck when swapping out drivers and using the same box. Cool thing is you can tailor the box size either way by adding fibreglass to increase its size, or a brick or two to decrease it. Port tuning changes as a result but the result is quite negligible.

I don't have the time to scroll through the nine pages in this thread so this one may have already been mentioned....an AA Havoc.

It's my dream sub which I hope to get in a couple of months. I plan to drive it with 1000-1100 watts from a refurbished Sundown SAE-1000D.

thnks ill check it out.

After I went back and looked at your amp again I'm not sure the Havoc would be your best choice. Is your amp 1 ohm stable? I ask because the Havoc is a DVC 2-ohm driver. The Sundown amp is stable at 1 ohm so it wouldn't be a problem.

Many Havoc owners are using Sundown's SAZ-1500D but I don't have enough room under my front seats to accomodate it. Hence, the reason why I'm planning to go with the smaller and slightly lower powered 1000D. I've been told the 1000D puts out 1000-1100 watts and is more than enough to get the Havocs wanging pretty good.

If it's DVC 2, he can wire at 4 ohms. PDX 1.1000 puts out 1k at 2 and 4 ohms.
