what to tune an 8 to?

i have a kenwood sub in a .82 cf box i have it tuned to 35hz and it sounds terrible. is that too low for an 8? im thinking i should try 40hz.

What specific subwoofer are you using? Model number? Maybe a link to the specs?

i have my 8's tuned to 35 hz and they can sound fine

I would try within 5hz of the woofer's FS. Alternatively, an adjustable port would work.

i cant find the info.kenwood only has stats on new stuffon there website. and it still doesnt have info like fs/ xmax, and such. the i will find it tomorrow.and tune it to fs its not that it sounds bad just not the volume that i was looking for. looking for a little more spl. had it at 35 then toned it even lower like 32 {got even quieter}, now i will try 40.

what would you tune a bad *** 8 to? im not in love with this kenwood or anything. it was laying around. i built the box to the biggest size i could. and am going from there. recommend a sub that wont break the bank and a place to tune it, and im there

depends what u want to get out of it..... i would tune mine to 35 because i wanted a little more spl, what do u want?

Check out the Digital Designs 1008a. Tune it to 45Hz initially with 15 square inches of vent per net cubic foot @ 16" depth. They get dumb when you want them to and they'll play pretty low if you stuff half the vent. Here is mine, just took the pic.

Did a 142.4 in the back of the A3 on a pair of linked M1's @ 3.4ohm nominal.

thanks vere i dont have that kinda room. i built the box as big as i could without loosing seating. its a wedge forward facing under the seat of a crew cab truck.

ok i tuned it to 40 and it got louder but only sounds good on certain songs. this is my first 8 and i am disapointed by its performance. i can smell voicecoil cooking. and the sub isnt gonna last the week. will an l5 be any louder? i know kenwood isnt the best but it certainly isnt the worst. i guess i have been listening to to many 10,12 and 15s
