what to look for when buying a mac...

Ask for a mac with Windows XP and a 2 button mouse. See what they say.

windows sucks... you can use any usb mouse on the mac...

on that price tag that refurb G5 would probably be the way

to go... anyone using the mac for "serious" or at least pro-sumer

music production need not look at the imac, ibook, minimac, or emac...

the powerbooks wont go G5 for another year or so... so just get

the powermac tower and build some beats...

Meh..windows sucks because of idiot users. Then you have the bandwagon people who have no clue what linux/macOSX etc are, but still act like it is the best thing ever.

You record 24 tracks of audio, edit video, and update your ipod all at the same time on pc and ee how long it takes to lock up...

i like the way a pc operates as far as everyday usage, but for music i see no other option. ive built computers, bought computers, and tried many other peoples stuff to create music and they all **** compared to studios with macs.

They'll say here, we'll sell you virtual pc for 80 bucks... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Eat that

And yes, for those of you who have no idea what you are talking about, macs **** PC's in everything but games and basic apps. Any image editing, video editing, sound editing will fly past a PC. Granted you may not like them because all you do is play games and write papers, but for certian applications its obviously millions of times better.

What exactly is virtual PC? just win xp on a mac? How stable is this and can I use PC based programs with it?

virtual pc is a PC emulator program that

you can run some basic windows stuff on...

you cant really play games on it because it

doesnt do graphics acceleration... i dont even

think it supports usb devices or midi...

its just a crutch til you figure out you can

do everything you need to do on a mac...

and im not a mac/linux poseur... ive been a

proud mac user for over three years and also

have a red hat linux box...

macs pwn pcs in everything except games... but

in my opinion computers are tools... if you wanna

play games get a playstation... if you want to get

some work done... get a mac...

logic 7 for your music will go nice with your shiney new g5

yeah, my friend uses a G4 and Logic 6 in his studio right now. The reason I was wondering about the virtual PC is because all the programs I use (Fruity Loops, Cubase SX, Cool Edit Pro) are all windows based and it would be wonderrul if i could just transfer them straight onto the mac, rather than pay for new versions. although If i do end up going for the g5, which im pretty sure of ill probably just end up going with a digi and protools firewire setup. **** usb. lol.

If you have enough memory, and a G5 like you said, you shouldn't really have a problem running those programs through Virtual PC, i've never actually used it to its full capability, justa f ew things here and there, but it even runs pretty smooth on a g4 ibook.

i run logic 6 through a motu 828 MKII firewire interface...

on either my 933 quicksilver or 1gig tibook... depending

on where im working...

so yeah... "f" usb...

my previous setup was a digi001... i dont like protools as

much as logic i guess...

plus once your on logic you can use the apple loops from

garage band which are pretty cool... i dont know...

i **** at music.

btw. i have virtual pc with windows 98 on it and its too slow to

really use on a g4... you wouldnt want to run those music programs

on it thats for sure...

and guitars etc...
