What To Do????

So a couple weeks ago I picked up a Skar Audio VVX-12 Directly from Kevin. It was one of them 4-12's he had for sale that he had in a customers car for a week then pulled because he didnt pay. He sold me the sub for $140 shipped which I thought was a fair price so I grabbed it.

The subwoofer arrives and I wait about a week then get ancy and throw it in a sealed box roughly 1.1-1.3 cubic feet and hooked it to my JL 500/1 just to do a quick test to see if it worked and how it sounded etc... Well the thing sounded terrible, it popped bad and just had an odd noise the whole time. I wasnt happy so I PMed Kevin and told him what was going on and the next day he called me. He said the problem was the box, he said it was to small allthough his website says 1.1 sealed recommended. He said get a 1.6 ported box and try that. So I get a box roughly 1.5-1.7 ported and try it again. Same thing the sub would pop bad and just has a very bad sound to it. Now both the times I tested the sub it was on for less then 20 seconds and was not turned up very loud, once I heard the sound I turned it off immediatly!

So I PM Kevin and fill him in and he says that he tests all subs before they leave and everything works 100% before it leaves the shop, so he tells me its either something I did or ups did. Well im not sure how ups could do anything and there's no way I could of done anything to it! So now here are my options,

1. Ship back to him on my own dollar and he will test and determine what the problem is, then if he determines it was not his fault then I will need to pay for a recone and shipping back to me!! Now that would make me have more money into this speaker then its even worth brand new!! And in all honesty I dont really want the sub anymore I want something more beefy!!

2. I could say eff Skar Audio and send it to SPLAudio and have him just rebuild it into a 1200rms sub with all new soft parts and much beefier im sure for $145 plus shipping to him.

I think either way I go will put me well over budget sense I only wanted to spend the $140 to begin with unless Kevin determines that is was his fault and warrenties me a new sub for free and covers shipping. I highly doubt in will turn out in my favor so whats a guy to do??? Need some help fellas!!

 
I have not tested or installed the 2 I bought from him on the same thread, but definitely had concerns about them immediately after purchasing.
Why?

The thread advertised (4) for sale from the uninstall.
@neogen , @rdlyn13000 each appeared to have bought (1) ; @Richardg got (2) , and I got (2).... plus @SkarAudio had another (2) advertised.
That makes (8) subs on a For Sale thread that said (4) were removed from that install.

AND, the exact same ad/pics can be found on at least one other forum (SMD). How many might have been sold elsewhere via the same ad....??

Plus, when I got mine, the boxes said "Tested 5/28 KS"
Now, if these were pulled, working, from a 1 week old install, then why the fukk would they need tested??

Ever feel as though you've been had?
(BTW, I posted here a number of times asking Kevin to explain in order to put my mind at ease, and he chose not to..... uhmmm, ever feel as though you've been had??)

This sounds a lot like the issue the guy brought up earlier this week or last week about Kevin selling him an amp and it being bad when the guy got it and Kevin blamed the guy and/or UPS. ****** luck man, sorry.

isnt there a thread bashing skaraudio because kevin was editing(changing) other people's reviews of his products instead of just deleting negative feedback?

p.s. You will be happy with whatever SPLAudio does, corey is a great guy and does great work, i know firsthand

 
This thread isnt about bashing Kevin and I dont want to bash him, I just want some insite on what to do next.

Yes I do feel like I have been had and its a chitty feeling but I guess in life you win some and lose some. Ive heard great things about SPLAudio and he seems like a straight up guy with great feed back.

Unfortunitely I purchased the Skar about a week or so before that loooong thread popped up about him, if that thread were up before hand I wouldnt have purchased. What really ***** is I really do not want to be $300 into a a subwoofer but may not have a choice??

 
I would ship it back & get a refund of the original purchase price, do a charge back on your CC or open a dispute with paypal if need be. If I had to eat the return shipping, so be it. If I could get return shipping covered then all the better. Then I'd get another sub from a more reputable source & never deal with Skar again.

I never thought about doing that. I did purchase using paypal but have never opened a dispute before? He sold you a defective / not as described product. He doesn't have the option to just say it's not his problem. You need to open a dispute asap though if you want to send it back.

Wonder what @Bassin Buick would think about the whole sitcheeation? lol
(mebbe he wud think it is more than a bit sad that a 'paying vendor' gets the old, "Awwww, whats a little white lie, or two, among friends?!" mentality)

But we'll never know, cuz he gots banned for scamming...
