What is the next step after fiberglassing the mat

Ok,i have done this process many times but i would like to have some opinions on this.

When i have finished with the basic shape of the construction what should i do next?

I always use polyester body filler all over the surface,sand it,fill in the large dips and gaps with it and sand it again and then spray 2 or more coats of high build primer coat...then sand this again to paint it.

Someone told me that is easier to spray first the high built primer and after the polyester body filler.He says this way you use less body filler and you sand much less too.

It all depends on how smooth the surface is to begin with. If you need to do some major smoothing the primer isn't going to help and if you're going to use filler anyway...
