What is the best amp I can get for the Sundown SA 12 for around 200?

Soundstream rubicon 1600 for 195 after coupon code SST1511 @ onlinecarstereo.com
Thanks man, i've heard great things about soundstreams lineup so I'll be sure to check that out.

In all reality though, you guys honestly think this 600 RMS rated sub can handle 1k more than that, 1600 watts?

No, it can't handle that much daily. Burps all day. But I would put around 1k on it and call it a day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So get an amp that puts out 1k at 1 ohm? I don't think my cars electric system can even handle that much lol. I already have a 300 watt amp and don't have a new battery or big 3 yet

1000 watts yes more than ,not sure.and i know the rubicon amps ,have sold a few ,they are ok at best
You still haven't come up with an amp for me though.. at least their giving me ideas. Lol

My rubicon is very stout, people say they are terribly inefficient but I'm running my 2500 off pretty much stock eletrical & big 3, running at 1 ohm gains set to 2k and I have virtually no drop

How about a Hifonics 1200.1 or 1000.1? I know people hate on Maxxsonics but these should be able to push that SA-12 and both run at 1 ohm. They're also both well under 200 bucks on Sonic. Just a thought.....

Thank you all for all the suggestions! I am considering each and every one of them very carefully lol.

I've ran into a problem though. As I read more and more reviews, it seems that the SA 12's are a majorly SPL sub, and my primary need is sound quality. I've been going back and forth between this sub and the Skar 12 inch sub, does anybody have experience with both? If so, which has more musical quality? Also should these subs be ported or sealed?

If your after SQ then you dont want either.

For SQ look toward Dayton Audio HF subs (on sale right now for $100 a piece shipped), any TC Sounds based sub, JBL MKIII, Creative Sound Solutions SDX10/12, Image Dynamics, Boston Acoustics, etc.

If your looking for used amp for power @4 or 1 ohm then I have some for sale..

Avionixx 1200@4

Autotek 1400@1

Boston gt28 1000@4

Underrated so will be a little more power

IMO, get something like Boston Acoustics GTA-1000m (or quality used I guess). Online prices are as low as $250 for new unit. 1000watts at 2ohms. 600watts at 4ohms. Independent reviews confirm great clean power and SQ. It's a class D amplifier, so it will be more than 80% efficient (at maximum wattage) powering 4ohm loads, and more than 70% efficient with 2ohm loads, which is great for your car's electrical system. Try to avoid to run your subwoofer system at 1ohms. It's like overclocking your PC processor. It's mostly for people looking to save a few pennies now, at the expense of upgrading the car's electrical system later, or for those looking for the loudest bang. Even 600watts into 4ohms is plenty of power. Unless you're mostly interested in hard hitting rap, there exist plenty of subwoofers will do fine on just 300watts.
