high output alternator, battery bank and having a much bigger amp than you think you need. If your sub is 1000 rms, you'll want at least a 1500 watt amp. Same logic with door speakers

I'm looking to replace my amp. Looks like i need to go bigger than what i was planning. I have a Delco 250 amp alt, and 0 gauge big 3. I running a soundstream 6000.1d on two ab xfls. Hopefully i'm getting 2400 out of my amp, but it's not as clean as it could be. The subs act like they want more

The amp should be enough power to reach your output goals without overdriving it.

That could be 500 or 5000 watts.

You make it clean or dirty.

Gain set properly/in accordance with your subs.

Giving your subs/speakers more power than rated. A lot of people are afraid to this in fear of blowing them. Not the case.
