In your honest opinion?

This is for my step daughter as her birthday is coming up and want to get her something nice under 200 dollars.

She is turning 12 and interested in photography. She is always trying to use my camera, but it is close to a grand and just don't want her to break it as it has been in and out of the Sony repair store way to much as is......without being dropped, lol!

I have seen a couple Cannons I like and a Nikkon and even thinking about the Sony Cybershot.........as I like the rechargable batteries and battery charger. Most the other cameras don't have those.

Let me know what you think and if you have used any of the Cannon poweshots or Nikkon coolpics cameras.

Oh yeah was looking at the 7.1 and up MP as well. Not that it means much as my 1000 Sony is a 5. 1 and would smoke most cameras out there.

This reminds me I need to get my camera back from my parents as they have had it way too much. And yes, I trust them more than a 12 year old kid...........however I have had to take it back to get repaired the last time they had it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Canon Powershots are usually always good cameras. Sony's use that Memory Stick iirc and those are more expensive then the SD card. I like my Fugi but it uses a XD card which again is almost double the price of an SD card.

Stragne you would help out of all people, but thanks for the input.

Totally forgot about the memory stick.

I would go with a Canon, Kodak, etc that use SD's cards. They are a lot better in price than MS Pro Duo's and XD cards.

check out the Canon Powershot SX100 i believe it is, a lot of my customers really like it.

I didn't realize who I was talking to at first.

The 560 is a nice camera. I've seen them on clearance here at most stores. IMO anything by Canon will be good, especially for a 12 year old.

you could try a cheapy kodak easyshare, $100 range, see how she does with it. that might be all she'll need, just a basic 3x optical / 3x digital zoom.
ive actually got one of those for cheaper than $100, if hes interested

since i got the a560 i dont use the kodak anymore

but for >$100 I would get a canon over any other camera hands down

I have two of those already, the 3.1mp ones from years ago. I don't like the quailty of them and they are just sitting in my bedroom collecting dust. Only got it to hook to the printer for 4x6's and bingo bango. Was nice at first, but got old quick.

Oh yeah are those Cannon poweshots decent at recording vids?

Ive used mine to do plenty of vids, and they are pretty **** good. I was really surprised at how they looked/sounded for a digital camera video.

As long as ur not doing anything for hollywood i'm sure you'd (or she'd) be happy with the vids it can make
