What if...

What are the consequences of having a ported enclosure that is too big in cubic volume but tuned to the right frequency for optimum performance??

Also a cousin of mine sold me a blown 12W3V3 for $10, i gutted it and left just the motor and the basket... is there a way to i guess "rebuild"?? new suspension and voice coil?

Oh and happy thanksgiving everyone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

as far as the sub, you can have someone on here rebuild it, or you might be able to get a recone for it from psi. Although Im not sure they have recones for them. not a bad idea to check

looked into it, too much $$$ to get it reconed, better off buying a whole new sub

Bigger box means you dont have to send as much power to achieve the same output as say a smaller box.
Well thats cool, i have no knowledge what so ever on enclosure behavior, thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

This is not true it will get louder in a smaller box with more power.... A bigger box can be bad say a sub is rated at 600rms for a 2 cube box you put that sub in a 4 cube box on the same power i guarantee it will be not as loud and could even blow

Not really, unless you're planning on sending too much power to the sub at the start. Then you can build your box too big. When designing your box you factor in everything as in the power you're planning on using, space, and sub specs.

Do you just quote stuff and reply or did you read it at all? Bigger box, lower power. And trust me I can take the same sub as you, on say 400 watts less power and with a bigger box get the same output as you. If you disagree then you know nothing about box building or even remote basics.

also when you have a larger box there will be a higher peak at tuning frequency. average peak is +3db. but when i was modeling for my drivers at certain tuning frequencys i was getting +6 or higher peaks. granted that was when i accidentally doubled the volume i had available, but still.

Matt

i doubt it... i mean come on use a sa 12 for example it i ran 600 rms to it (just rated power) in 1.75 cubes and you ran 200 in say 2.5t or 3 cubes i bet i would be louder matter a fact i know i would

I'll just cut the box shorter to where the volume is suppose to be this is so confusing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

Ok. Have you ever modeled up anything on any box building program? I'm not going to sit here and go back and forth with ignorance.
