you can play a tone lower then the tuning of your box... just make sure you set your subsonic filter a 1/2 octave below your tuning frequency

Late Night Tip+ high tuned box usually means pwnt woofer...

Especially because I never have a varible subsonic filter.

Yea just set up your SSF right, and Dont play anything too too low or the former will bottom out on the back plate.

you can reach maximum excursion with a relatively low amount of power and bottom out the subwoofer. Generally Try not to play tones more than half an octave below tuning and use a subsonic filter.

You will be hitting what is called " THE BROWN NOTE" when you do this you and anyone around you will sht them selves so DONT DO IT!

Cone excursion increases dramatically once the signal dips below the enclosure's tuning frequency. If you do not have a SSF to filter out those notes, it can easily cause the speaker(s) to bottom out.

The exact point you can *safely* set your SSF at depends on many things (mainly box specs and power to the speaker), but generally speaking with a 32hz tuning you should be able to reach 20hz without too much concern (where most signal material stops). With a 32hz tuned box most people can play music without any SSF. But if you are worried, set it to 20-25hz and breath easier.
