What happened to hu's having more than a 3 band eq?

I seem to remember almost all hu's having at least a 5 band eq if not a 7 band. I've been looking for a double din to replace my stock with and notice most are just a 3. Why is everything going down on their equalization? It seems only the higher end ones have the better eq's anymore. Or is this something I shouldn't even be worried about? I always liked to be able to better tweak the sound to what I was after.

The HU companies are making their products cheap so they can make more profits.

Look at the displays, HU's used to have colored multi line displays on even mid priced single DIN models, now they have the same cheap dot matrix two line displays that were common back 15 years ago.

Even Alpine's top single DIN models have ugly old black and white displays, and to get any real equalization you have to buy an add on DSP processor.

I was looking into the 4300 but I hated that it doesn't come with BT and I heard the BT module is a piece of shit.

I like the dvd3300bt I got, has an 8 band and is Nav ready so you can add the module if you want later, plus has BT already and works well.

I like the touch screens but was after a simple front with a decent eq. I had a pioneer a few years ago with a fully customizable 7 band eq. I could do so much more with the sound than most of the 3 band I'm seeing now. I really would like to find a rear usb as I hate seeing them sticking out the front. It just ruins the aesthetics. Not to mention the possibility of accidentally hitting it and breaking something.

Sorry but we didnt make money off of head units. People now days are too cheap and if they did want to spend the money, most would never know how to use them properly. We had made them with less bands to compete with the other as far as features go. The 991 was a great example of a complete unit and now it will never return.

Yes, I would love to have on of these h/u.

I'd rather run a head unit that's focus was sound and leave the eq to a stand alone unit.
I would do this but don't want to add an eq. I just don't feel someone should have to go through all of that just to get the control over the sound. That is a lot of the reason for getting an aftermarket unit is sound control. I've seen factory hu's that have had a 7 band on them. It just seems like the quality has dropped but the price has remained the same. Something just doesn't seem right about that.

we are the minority of audio users

most people just want an ipod connection or a wired aux so they can use their ipod

very few people I know would actually use an EQ and even less would know what is time alignment
