What else can you use besides a table saw to make straight cuts?

I use a circular saw. It's not really that hard to cut on a straight line. Just line the guide up on the line then make sure the edge of the blade is on the outside edge of your line. Then cut slow. I've never used a table saw, well I have but it's more time consuming.

The easiest way to do it, get a nice straight piece of Poplor 1x2, screw it to another piece of 1x4 poplar. Run your saw down it to make the Cut guide.

Now just line up the cut guide with what you want cut.

sadfasfdafsd this is harder then I thought, I have pretty much no experience with woodworking.

Thanks for all your help guys, I'll be trying these techniques with the circular saw.

like you i am also a college student and work part time. i started out using a circular saw to cut, using a straight piece of wood as a guide, or a "fence" ,if you will. I later switched to a jigsaw, its a slower cutting process, but the dust isn't near as bad, i have a pretty irritable nose.

i work part time at lowes, and usually, if its not busy, and you're polite, you will get accurate cuts, squareness cannot be guaranteed however...

i go to home depot and they cut it for free if i baught the mdf from them! and they do pretty good cuts, except double check the small cuts cause their saw it so big the smaller cuts are hard to get perfect for some reason

Get a carpenter's square, a pencil, and get good at following a line with a circular saw... after you do that, it's pretty **** easy to make straight cuts :p lol
