what does it cost to run a forum like this for a year

really doesnt cost that much. I used to help run a successful paintball forum (Impulseownersgroup.com), and aside from the initial software purchase (or pay by month) All you need is TIME and prolly $25-50 a month for bandwidth depending on the size and traffic. It adds up, and for every one thats successful, there are thousands that have 3 or 4 members...

i see, thanks.........

When a forum first starts it does not use much diskspace or bandwidth, you can get a

A server such as CA.com has millions of posts you would need a dedicated server, good is a cheap *** so I believe he is running it off one server, best idea would be running a dedicated mysql box and a dedicated box just for loading the http pages.

My guess would be two decent boxes, leased at a decent datacenter would cost you about $600-1000 a month and probably based on what Goob pays to run this place looking at the datacenter he is in and knowing the prices they charge fairly well.

The forum my wife admins for has a member base of around 133,000 members. They get over 500,000 unique visitors per month and something like 10 million page views.

It costs roughly 35,000 a year to run it.
