what does 24db/octave means?

in looking for some crossovers, i found some have "18db/octave" and others "24db/octave" what does this mean?

The slope of the crossover. The higher the number, the steeper the rolloff.

is that "better"?

depending on if you want your other freq's to rolloff that much..
