I purchased a JL 250/1 amp a while back (Nov. of 2004) to run 2-10" JL subs. Six weeks after I got this thing the sub outputs on the amp went out. I've already sent it 3 times for repair through the authorized dealer I purchased it at and for the fourth time the outputs have gone out.

I'm really tired of taking it back for repair and waiting every 3-4 weeks cuz it's busted again. I talked to the dealer and after a long discussion and the guy testing it at the shop and actually seeing it die (make a static sound and that's all it does) he agreed to call JL and see if they can give me credit.

Now, I've been more than patient here! I've not argued, except for this last time because the guy was blaiming it on my set up. I tolk him then why hasn't the Sony Xplod and PPI amps on the same setup not died? I told him that I would buy the 500/1 for a different setup if I got credit. I'D STILL STICK WITH JL!

I called today to see on the status of credit and the guy tells me JL told him they could only repair and not give credit. He was told the only guy that could give credit was out on vacation and wouldn't be back for another week. The local dealer suggested I wait and see if this guy would be nice enough to help out.

Has anyone had this experience with JL? Should I get involved and e-mail as many important people as possible at JL? I mean, I'm still willing to buy another JL just not the piece of crap 250/1. I'm tired of this sheeet!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

It's August 2005 and I'm still dealing with this crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

Any suggestions?

call JL audio themself and find out what is going on.... threaten to go to the better business bureau
exactly! seems like you have yourself a LEMON! if it comes down to it, tell them youll have to tell many people on the internet about your bad experience. if you have all of your repair paperwork, id think jl would hook you up with something new.

good luck!

ask for a new one - they gave you a lemon and should do the right thing.

Or what I would do is

Buy a new amp of another brand and once yours comes back repaired Ebay it

Thanks for the replies guys!

Excelerater,

I wouldn't wish this lemon on my worse enemy. The only thing this is good for is as a door stop or a big arse paper weight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know why the outputs might be going out. I've checked my whole setup for from battery to amp over an over and I can't even find even a short.

I'd really like to get a 500/1 to run a pair of 10W3v2 I just got. I was planning to use the 250/1 to run a pair of 10wO but I guess I'll go back to the sony that was running them.

Does anyone know anything about the new PPIs. The local guys have them really expensive. I got a quote of $650 for the 1000.1.

Jl is a very good company to deal with so just wait for that guy to get back and I'm sure everything will be alright. But yeah sounds like u did get a lemon though which is a big bummer! Just wait it out I'm sure they'll come around to something

If not you should just be able to upgrade to the 500/1 without any problems you will probably just have to cough over more cash.

At this point I would have no problem coughing up a lung!!! I'll pay the **** $400-$500 the 500/1 costs but gimme a break on the lemon.

I've got no beef with JL. I'm sure they make quality amps. I buy stuff from them because they have proven quality at least to me. That's why my truck is all JL speakers. But you'd think a lightbulb would go on and someone would say, "hey, this thing's been here 3 times!!! Why don't we give him a new one or get him credit so he can buy the one he wants."

I guess it's like anything else you gotta jump all the hurdles with a smile on your face before anything gets done.

I sure hope JL comes through.

Ok, so after a month of back and forth checking with JL to see if they could get me the 500/1. It's done!

I've got it and I'm getting the same crappy sound. The amp hits great once it's past the distortion coming out. It sounds like an old vinyl record before it hits the song.

I took apart my whole setup.....again......for the 15th time! The only thing that I can come up with is the amp filter on the amp: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/6986.pdf

Once I turn it off it's all gone but, if I do this the amp is weak as hell running the 2-JL3V2-4ohm I have.

This is my basic setup:

Straight spit outta my Stock 2001 Toy Tundra radio using scosche connectors (TA02 & TA02R) into a scosche 4 channel RCA (SLC 4: http://scosche.com/scosche_caraudio.aspx?CategoryID=36&ItemID=SLC4)powered.

The rca runs into my PPI 4 channel amp running my JL XR650 CSI. The front speakers run great and no blown speaker outs. Then I run power back to the lower rear compartment where the JL is. It's preceeded by a Tsunami 1 Farad Cap - Just replaced the Lightning audio Cap I had to see if it made a difference. The Tsunami just looks better and cleaner---**** that lightning audio ebay purchase.

Then power, ground, and remote (run from fuse box) into JL amp. I physically checked the lines for shorts and no cigar. The subs are powered to JLs series diagaram: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/8841.pdf but, it shouldn't matter much since the the amp will regulate the ohm's. I'm running in series second diagram 4ohm.

So, to finanlize, it sounds like sheeet at startup and then get's better. I just don't feel comfortable with it but I guess I'll run it till it dies again!

Any ideas????

so call them. NOW.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT DON'T READ IT OR POST ON IT!!! I already called JL and they are a bunch of excuses and time wasted.

I'm trying to get responses from people who have had similar problems or know JL Products. Not people who waste their time complaining about a question.
