I'm expecting to get my van to 200K miles...over that, I don't know how long the original engine will last. If/when I need to get a replacement, this will be my new ride:

Steyr Pinzgauer 710K...5spd, front/rear locking diffs, dual battery setup with a 24V electrical system, can ford more water than a Hummer while getting 15 MPG and costs as much as a Civic, including import costs.

Mount some antennas, fill it with electronics, maybe mount a front 2" receiver with a winch...would be the ultimate weekend trip vehicle.

ive seen a couple of those around, so freaking cool

best part: 24 glorious volts... mmmmm... unregulated amps.... yummy

Yeah, installing a stereo would be difficult. But that's not what I'd buy it for...going out on trails would be hell for the equipment anyway. I don't want to run subs in a vehicle that can ford three feet of water, stock //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Warn makes 24V winches (only 200 amps of current draw, woot), and I could get a 30A or so step-down transformer to get to 12V for the two-way radios and GPS gear...that's all I'd need.
