So, I bought this MTX amp/sub package...

I would bump the subs at vol 18 normally and the amp would last a while like 30 minutes or so until it over heated... then one day I had it on vol 20 for no more than 2 minutes and the subs just cut out and now my amp doesnt work...

ive had it passed vol 20 for longer than that before, even on 20 it still doesnt get that hot fast...

the amp gets power and lights up and everything but subs dont get power. No fuses are blown. Like i said i wasnt REALLY bumping it... could it be somethign to do with the wires inside where the amp goes out to the subs?

or should i try returning it or something... for when it was working it over heated a few times so they could probably tell that? im guessing that might void the warranty or something?

what does the HU go to if you overheat in 30min @18 it sounds like the gain was through the roof or the ohm load was way to low, I run the RF T600.2(class AB) and it has no ventilation and will run full tilt for well over an hour before your even close to shutting down due to thermal. It sounds like you may have cooked the amp but to be sure check all the fuses also thermal protect is there as a safety not a point to push the amp to everytime it's played sometimes it saves it sometimes it's to late the biggest killer of any electronics is HEAT and it sounds like you have gotten yours hot several times.

Uhhh i think it goes to like 32 or something? maybe 38. Yeah the gain was sort of high, i had already turned it down before that... Im not sure what it was on theres no numbers its just a screw i think i put it about half way when i turned it down the first time... Its all pre wired, mono amp subs are wired for 2 ohms in the box. Its a CHEAP like... 250x1 amp? i think... im not even sure what amp it is, its not the one that is supposed to come in the package (terminator 2 12" package) non vented... i checked the 2 fuses in the amp, they are fine. didnt check the power wire one as the amp still gets power... yes i have gotten it hot several times. but the time that it broke it wasnt even hot.

lmao.. why would you ever work on a.. eh play it til it overheats then turn it down til it cools down.. system? thats retarded!!
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif because its a cheap crappy amp and i was planning on getting a new one... and then i didnt get a job. haha. I still might be getting a Kenwood KAC-9105D (which is what i wanted)

there is something bad wrong to overheat in that little of time at a low volume setting.
well... could be... i think it might just be the fact that its 2 12's at like 250 rms and the amp is like 250 max i think? im not sure it doesnt really say... but yeah. trying to make them sound better then stock... lol

This. ^^^^

post a pic of the settings on the amp post a pic of where the amp is located
uhhh. im not sure that will help. and its not where it was before because my subs are out of my car. It was on top of the box, rendering the poor excuses of heat sinks useless...

also, i think the amp was on high pass the whole time... not low pass... which i switched. i didnt hook it up since i had no idea how.

I will be kind an say steer clear of kenwood.. minus their h/u's nothing they make anymore is of much quality..
...... want to recommend something.... thats not expensive.

Hifonics.... lol

My subs are 250 rms 5-600 max each i think... i would love better subs but....... thats not gonna happen soon.

I will second this.

Let us know your budget and we will point you in the right direction.

As far as the problem, I would check and recheck everything. Sounds to me like it's an install problem, if not the amp itself.

The amp is underpowering those subs. Just because the subs will accept more power does not mean they can ruin the amp. This is impossible to my knowledge.
