What causes an amp to "loose" power??

I'll explain later what I mean but having the gain on my MTX 81000D 1/2 way and the gain on my linedriver at full tilt my ears should be ringing on a pair of rl-i8's. I know it's only 8's but still, having to crank the volume to 14 or 16 just to hear a little bass is ridiculous. This has been an ongoing problem for a long time with my S10 Blzr. Like I said I'll be back to explain in more detail....I gots some things to do.

I turn my volume up to 42. lol

2dr or 4dr Blazer?

Either way the cabin is going to be a lot of air volume for a pair of 8s (no matter how capable those 8s may be) to pressurize //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I'm thinking you're expecting more performance than your SoundSplinters can deliver here...

Ok I can provide more info now. It's pretty sad that I can hear my mids/highs over my 8's.....granite my HU is powering the highs/mids. I just can't figure it out. Think about it: My gain on the amp is 1/2 way up.....the gain on the linedriver is at full tilt...my subs should be blasting and when I had them in the Tahoe for a little bit, they sounded awesome....like a pair of mid level 12's, each sub getting around 225 watts. My HU is in my sig.

1.) you may be missing the point to "gain".

2.) ensure the bass is not set low.

3.) ensure the subwoofer level is not low.

4.) ensure there are no highpass filters on the woofer

5.) ... including a SSF set to something like 50hz...

6.) ensure the LPF is set to something reasonable, like 80hz.

7.) increase HU volume a decent amount

8.) adjust line driver/amplifier gains to provide desired output.
