So. Steve repaired my 3k not too long ago. clamped it last night and it was doing 1996@2.3 and 12.6v

woke up this morning went to the car lot gave a couple demos early before we left for the auction and all of a suddon my subs start sounding funny. open the trunk. WAM fire!. here are some pics.

its just the output side of the amp during the demo i was never below 12.8 then i hit a low note and thats when it started.

something arcd in there for sure lol bad soilder skills or left over soilder? any water get in there? did any fuses pop anywhere?
i never fuse my amps and the wire wasnt the cause.

may have been solder from the previous repair by steve

i know there was alot of dew and frost this morning so water is what i think made it go. it was a beast during the demo and it kept playing even after it caught fire lol

look at the non-cooked fets for broken legs and the driver board, or other non smoked up parts of the board between for residue. the solder looks perfectly fine work, and i see no left-over flux. if i had to take a good guestimate from this side of the screen, i would say that it is likely that either a few legs broke, and the fets left to take the load were over-worked, or that some residue conducted once wet, keeping the fets active longer than they should be at full duty. if you know the proper technique for removing the fet clamps, i would check the brand and date code of all the fets there. first thing is to contact steve and see what he has to say before doing anything else.
