what capacitor??

i need to buy a capacitor cuz my lights are dimming, but i dont know how many farads to go for!

i got an alpine type r 2005

1500W peak 500RMS but running on 1ohm at arround 1000w RMS

running on a kenwood excelon kac-811d amp 1600W peak

i also have another small amp thats about 2x 50w RMS

what would i need??

you don't need, nor want a cap. do a search for cap, capacitor for the full explanation.

1 farad = 1000 watts, so a 1.2 tsunami cap from circuit city will suit you just fine. P.S. you might get flammed for asking about a cap. Try the Big 3 that will help you for cheaper too.

Now that's not necessarily true...

Likely but not for certain - we don't know what kind of vehicle this gear is going in and what kind of output the alternator he's already got produces.

I'd go with upgrading the "Big 3" underhood wires and see if that doesn't correct the majority, if not all, of your dimming issues. See the stickied tutorial in the wiring section for specifics.

Buying/installing some heavy gauge cabling will do far more for your charging system than any capacitor might and for less expense (a win-win situation //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif )

If you still experience serious dimmage after upgrading that wiring then you would likely need to investigate some HO alternators.

Buy a cap if you like but I really believe that money (and less of it!) would be better invested elsewhere.
