What bitrate do you guys have your mp3s recorded at? I am using 128 kbps on my mp3 player to fit more songs but i want to know if i will notice a sound quality loss when i start playing my mp3s through my head unit?

No, you won't notice a difference. Bit rates over 128 offer very little sound differences. The difference in recording will be much more audible.

true, past 128 it's hard to tell, I dont' notice a quality increase above 128 in most cases, everything higher still sounds like an MP3, just no better. Especially in a car where alot of the low level details that MP3's tend to lack are lost anyway.

Properly ripping songs will make for far better quality music than the bitrate alone. You have no idea how many options the LAME codec offers for the initial encoding. Once you get into tweaking things you can really set the whole format loose and make transparent CD quality rips at 128kbps; but on the "safe" stock settings you're just out to screw yourself over.

I use OGG/Vorbis, tweaked 128-160 VBR. The rips are direct from CDs. I can't hear a difference between what I've ripped and the CDs. I would go higher but hard drive space wins over bitrate on this PC.
