What benefits of modding a MTX 1501d?

I have heard guys talking about modded MTX 1501d's here on the forums. What are the benefits from doing it? I'm sure more wattage, but is it worth doing and is it something that I can do myself? I have one pushing my 2-12" L7's and it does a pretty good job at it. Buy I have a 12" Alpine type X and will be getting another one this weekend. I have a guy building me a ported box to Alpines specs for them. I worried the 1501d is'nt going to be able to make them 2- X's sound like there suppose too. Will modding the 1501 help? Or should I go to something with more ballz, like Orion 2500d or Kicker 2500.1? Any suggestions would be well appreciated. Thanks.

Yea, I am thinking about doing the Big 3 soon. I know I will have to do some upgrades to my stock electrical system before I start running more power. Thanks for the quick reply.

Anyone else know about modding the 1501d? And maybe an opinion or two on what I'm can expect from going from 2 12" L7s to 2 12" Type X's. So far I hear SQ will be a diffrence, buy anything else I should know? I am still keeping the L7's for now. Unless these X's just impress the hell out of me. I still love the way them

L7's HIT!!!

That would be cool to get it to drop to 1 ohm. I guess I would have to find someone who knows how to mod it. That maybe can hold me over untill I can up-grade to a larger amp. The wife is already got me in the doghouse for buying 2L7's and then turn around and buy two Type X's. So I may want to wait a little bit before I go out and buy the Orion.(if I ever want any poon-nany in the near future).

Modding the 1501d Allows the amp to NOT go into protection mode when you drop the impediance to... lets say .5 - 1ohm and it will stay running. Just remeber your going to having a higher current draw doing this.

Modding the MTX1501d is a VERY simple procedure. Hell I've done it dozens of times... in 5minutes or less //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

It in essence, removes the protection circuit. It allows you to run it down to 1ohm daily, and to .35ohms for competitions (burps only). It can also accept up to 18v input.

As stated, I recommend a solid electrical system to do this. Give it current, and it will give you power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. Also, make sure you NEVER connect/disconnect the RCA's while the amp is on. MTX's are touchy about this, so just letting you know.

Only I've see blow was when it was @.175ohms and a burp went below tuning... it fried, and another was one someone disconnected/connected the RCA's while the amp was one... sent a spike and fried it.

LMK, I can walk you through the process if need be.

Yea, if you don't mind I would like to find out to do this for future use. Can you PM me the instructions or details? Beleive me I don't want to screw my amp up. I plan on getting a bigger amp eventually but I want to hang on to this one for a back-up amp. Very hard working and reliable amp. Thanks...
