I see one manufacturer sells them for Marine environments. They seem to do better in wide open spaces. Sometimes they can sound hollow, like at a ballgame- depending on where you are in reference to the horn and the direction it is facing- and also probably their setup (EQ and amp).
Thanks The Camry, I looked at a disassembly of one online and didnt learn much about it. It seems the throat and mouth are just there to direct the energy and promote good acoustics, but have no moving or energized parts. I THOUGHT the driver was a tweeter, but am just still confused on if it has magnets and voice coils, surrounds and spiders. I must admit I am still learning how a speaker works and what each part of it does and the importance of the materials. So, I guess, I am venturing a bit when I am looking at horns (horn load compression drivers).
I see concerts and clubs (both indoor and out) seem to prefer them. It DOES seem to me that a nice horn and a 15" woofer (re: not subwoofer) are a great combination in a cabinet together for parties and picnics.
Good luck all!
