im sure you guys are all sick of answering the same question by now. i tried avoiding asking by doing a search on certain amps to find out how good/bad they are. problem is, everytime i think i find an amp that id like, i look it up here, and it gets trashed, lol. i figured this would be a good place to get real honest opinions on amps, with all your collective experience.

so, with that, ill throw it out there that the subs i got were free. from doing all my searches, i know sony xplod isnt a great name around here. so yeah, i got two new xplod 10's for free. 300 rms, 4 ohm. i have two seperate boxes and its going in a 2004 regular cab dodge ram.

im looking for a good amp, not really to push these subs, but down the road, the subs will be upgraded. but for now, im only powering the subs, not the speakers. i have to fit the amp under the drivers seat, which is my preference.

originally, i was led to the rockford fosgate p3002. it seems okay, but i dont mind spending a few more dollars on a much better amp if i can find one. i looked at the kenwood kac - 7202 which didnt get favorable reviews here. i looked at the audiobahn a8000t which i was led to by a crutchfield advisor, still not really great reviews on it here

im looking for something that will be reliable, and powerful, and my max $$ would be somewhere around $250.

i also dont know if id need a capacitor. if i can get away without using one, id rather. but if its recommended, then ill probably pick one up.

i know almost nothing about car audio and such, and ive been researching for over a week. any help would be greatly appreciated in advance.

xplods you dont really have to worry bout over powering them ... they take alot

if your subs are single voice coil 4 ohms

-kicker kx600.1

if your subs are dual voice coil 4 ohms

-directed audio 750d (79$ refurbished on http://www.ikesound.com)

-orion 600d

not sure really. that will be down the road sometime. ill get some use out of these for now, and when i have more money to spend on a decent system, ill look further. i really dont know who makes good anything as far as car audio goes.

right now im only looking for some decent bass. i listen to metal about 95% of the time, and ive been told a few times to go with 10s for metal. i didnt want to over spend for a junk amp, when i could have picked something up for similar value that is much better, which would happen since im uneducated on the whole audio scene.

im not looking to enter any kind of competition ever, so im not looking for the high high end. im content with middle of the road as far as car audio goes. as far as my HU, i have a JVC shx700, and xplods in the front doors, as well as the rear panel. the stock system in my truck sucked horribly. in comparison to stock, the xplod speakers are really good. ill probably stick with those for the duration of the time i own the vehicle.

Good amps:

Old school orion, PPI Art series.

Clarion DPX (Power Series)

California amps rock for the price

Precision Power PCX2200 and 2400... BALLSY AS ALL HELL and great sq

JL amps for SQ...

That sums up my experience.

thanks for all the advice, and after looking deeper, i narrowed down my decision to one of these 3 amps. i can get either one for about $250 or less, which is good, but still not sure if id need a cap for it.

either way, the 3:

orion wcc 1600.2

-the one i think is the best one for the money i could find. i dont really need all that stuff on it, but the specs seem pretty good on it, and i hear only good things about orion. not sure if it will fit under the drivers seat or not. id rather it hidden under there, but if not, ill just mount it in the back. this is my first choice.

hifonics zx6000

-my second favorite choice on the list. looks good, comes with the bass remote, decent price. is there a way to wire the 4 ohm xplods to 2 ohm? if so, the power to the sub doubles with this amp.

kicker kx450.2

-looks okay, not as much so as the orion above. the KICKER SX600.2 is much more impressive, but a bit out of my price range

so, im pretty sure ill be going with that orion unless i hear otherwise here.

"What are you trying to power with this amp you're needing opinions on?"

Guess I should take my own advice and read the thread, eh?!?

The following still stands, however....

Out of the three I would go with either the Orion or the Kicker but for less money and more output you could go with an Orion 1200D. More power than the Orion you posted with room for expansion later if you upgrade your subs.

The West Coast Customs edition Orions aren't any different internally than their regular Orion counterparts and all you're paying the extra money for is the WCC cosmetics (which come off as I understand it) Unless you just have to have that WCC logo IMO they simply aren't worth the extra dough.

Just my $0.02.
