are the drives refurb, new, used?

although they are the 2mb cache drives for $35 thats a pretty good deal if you need the storage.

if i had the space i would buy some, but running 4 500gb drives takes up much less space than 8 250gb drives

Used, and I'd take 4 500s over 8 250s any day.
