wellllllll 2 things went wrong, one bad, one worse.....

i order a clamp meter off ebay and i get it in the mail this mourning and im not sure if it's defective or i did something wrong. the manual says to just clamp the clamp on the wire to get the amperage reading...but i always though ampmeters need to be in hooked up in series...? either way i tested the current from my 1501d and with it wanging on my xxx it read i was only pulling like 9 or 10 amps at 55-60volts AC.......which puts me in the neighborhood of 550-600watts....that cant be right.....the mtx 1501d is at 1 ohm and definitly putting more power to that sub.... and on top of that the clamp meter would give me a reading with it just near the wire and not even touching it....weird? am i just supposed to clamp it to part of the wire, is it supposed to be on the + or - side? what amp i doing wrong?

wellllll here's where it gets from bad to worse.....

i went to test the current wiht my other regular multimeter but decided to try that later....i go back to test the voltage...and i forgot to SWITCH THE FREAKING PLUG on the meter from amperage to voltage.........spark spark PUFFFFFFFFFFF....majic smoke.......for those of you who have done shitty mistakes liek this you can feel my painw hen i say this sucks total *** cause i feel like an ***.....

if the reading was accurate, youve got impedence rise to 6.5 ohms or so.

thats shitty.....could a leaky box around where the sub screws into help cause more than normal imp rise....? i notcied some leakage before the amplifier blowage....?

bump...still curious as to if box leakage may be a cause for the imp rise....there are probly more than just that as a factor to cause it to be so huge.....but could it contribute?

clamp on meters just clamp on man...no series connection. now if you want to test voltage with a DMM it must be in parallel with whatever device you are tesing.....however if you are testing current(amps) then you must actually hook it in series.

i dont know if this has anything to do with anything but i noticed you said this is all wired at 1 ohm?? i have a modded mtx 1501d also and my sub is wired 1 ohm and my gain was set to 31.6 volts AC on the DMM (square root of 1000 times 1).. so my idMAX gets 1000 watts at max volume when playing a sine wave. are you saying you set your gain using 55-60 volts?? does that mean you're trying to get 3000 watts out your amp at max volume? r u sure it's not wired to 4 ohm??

ya...went back with the dmm and the VC are wired in parallel into a 1 ohm load..... wierd....

now i noticed some leakage around the sub mount...could that add signifigantly to imp rise??

im gonna get some silicon and fix that seal up.....
