Well i guess i burned up my alt.....

Thats all i can figure that happened anyway. I finnaly got all the tweaking done on the new amp i installed on my 1990 Audi 100. Well im running a 1200 PA amp and 2 10 type-rs, and i hooked up my new kenwood 320W amp to my speakers. When i got the gains set the way i wanted them, i went for a ride and had everything cranked, sounded great, but it started getting dark so i turned on the headlights. The headlights came on really dim and my dashboard light was bearly on. Also my ebrake, batt, and antilock brake lights came on. I could smell faint burning from under the hood and my batt gauge in the dash which usually read between 12-14V was down to 8 or 9. SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH. Sound like the alt to you guys? I havent done the big three yet, so i guess thats to blame. **** i didnt want to buy a new alt. Will need to replace the battery as well? It still starts its just sluggish. I would guess by the end of the week it wont crank.

I wouldnt wait, I would replace it now or it will leave you stranded somewhere. Did it just die or did you have any dimming before hand?

It wasnt really dimming but i did see a little drop in voltage on the gauge.

The alt was prolly half in the bag a year ago,I would remove it and bring it to an

ALT rebuilder....
